Umd Drive Not Working (does not spin)
« on: February 12, 2011, 04:31:33 PM »
Hey all,
I use to have a psp 2000 still do i haven't used for like 2 years because i changed the black housing the clear ever since then the umd drive wouldn't spin (idk if the laser works or not) i handled the parts safely and making sure i didnt damage anything i have made sure the wires and stuff is all attached. Basically what i want to know is whats broken or whats wrong like is the mother board, umd drive, the ribben is their anything i can do to make it work without buying anything (i can and will if needed)
The reason i havnt done this earlier because i have psp go and a near perfect psp 2000 why not fix it.
(I am going to fully take it apart and rebuild to night to see what happens and clean some parts)
Thanks :)

Make sure all the ribbon cables  are in there really good especially the greenish one at the bottom thats next to the screen's cables, blow in the to plugins where your UMD drive plugs in.if nothing works its either a fuse on your mobo is blown, your cables are bad,or the ports are bad. so you can buy new parts or stick CFW on there   :yess:. i hope this helped.

Move the laser to the other side using your hand. Tell me the results.

is it possible that something wasn't pluged in all the way when you put it back to gather the first time and it shorted out?

i'm not sure as far as i know there are no fuzes for the umd drive... you may be able to rout power from somewhere else on the psp motherboard but you'd need to know the voltage of the umd first

I havnt got a Umd drive in any of my psps, so yh. I keep the space, for modding. And best of all it the psp will weigh as light as the psp slim , if you do it to a fat.

Yes it definitely does? There is an iso loader on PSP Go, why would he not want to keep his umd drive so he can rip isos of his umds and then play them on his go?  :eyebrow: Think please.

It does, but I said that because he changed subject. Dont worry just download all the games, that you own. Why bother extracting it from the Umd. Its a waste.
Download games from this site. http://pspisoz.com/ Make sure u own the games first.

Yes, it's a thread, that happens sometimes. And are you crazy tech? Luckily I'm a nice guy and I won't be a dbag about it... Extracting from umd is NOT a waste. AT ALL. It is about the most legal way to play backup copies of games, and the only way to play your UMD's on PSP go. And if you download ILLEGALLY, you don't know what region game you are going to get, viruses, etc. But that is WAY besides that point.
Don't ever suggest piracy, or give a link to a piracy site on AM.
It does not matter if he owns the games or not, the images he is downloading are not of the games HE purchased, therefore he should not be downloading them. I mean i could maybe, kinda understand if you told him to do that for a console which is no longer manufactured, or games are not made for it anymore, but the PSP is still going strong, don't support piracy. He has a perfectly valid point of wanting to fix his umd drive so he can port his own umds to his Go.

On another note, make sure you follow the rules tech, there's a road called "Ugotbanned" and u seem to be heading down it quickly, make sure u follow the rules and respect other people's opinions. And i don't want to act like anybodies mom, and i'm definitely not an admin, i'm sure my comment will annoy someone, but this is from user to user, follow the dang rules.

Hopefully you won't. There's a good chance that you won't, however sometimes the components responsible for the UMD on the motherboard can fail... I remember I took apart a 2000, kept the UMD drive perfecty still in a rubbermaid container, didn't touch it for three days, put it back and it wouldn't read ANY UMDs. Then i found an old umd drive, that had been on my carpet LOL, not been taken well care of, put it in and it worked. So there's a good chance that ur drive is bad

No you are thinking of 360 consoles (i think?) if you replace a psp umd drive with another one, it will definitely function right. the drive does not have to be the same.
