PSP Trigger Mod

Introduction
Hopefully the original poster will not mind me fixing this tut for people
origanal thread with broken pictures
https://www.acidmods.com/forum/index.php?topic=13481.0

Parts Needed
  • 30 Gauge Kynar wire
  • 2x 0603 LED’s
  • 1x 10-ohm Resistor
  • Flux
  • Solder

Tools Needed
  • Hot glue gun
  • Soldering Iron
  • Intermediate soldering and PSP disassembly skills

Step By Step Tutorial
1- This is the wiring schematic for the tri er mod.

2- PREPAIR THE LED’s, SHOULDER BUTTONS, AND POWERBOARD
The first thing to do is cut 2x lengths of wire, one for the positive, and one for the negative, now tie a knot close to one of the ends of each. The knots have two reasons, they act as heat sinks between the two ends, so the solder on the opposite end won’t heat up when you are soldering on the other end, and it helps hold the wires, keeping them from being pulled from their solder points.

Here you see a detailed picture on where to solder your Wires to.

3- And this is how it will look soldered.

4- Noticed how I routed the wires in this picture. Once the wires are tied slip them through the same hole. This picture also shows the points on the power board, you will have to solder to. Notice how I scraped the paint on the supply trace; it’s much easier than trying to solder to those small through-holes, to the left, this is where the positive wire gets soldered. You can also see the point where the negative wire gets soldered. Next, cut the positive wire to a manageable length, and solder the 1x 10-ohm Resistor to it. Alternative: The Resistor may also be soldered directly to the positive contact point.
To prepare the LED’s, solder 1x length of wire to each of the positive and negative sides of the LED’s.
Next, drill the shoulder buttons.
4dp's picture i could not find any good pictures hope you dont mind

5- As you can see, the place I drilled the holes is on the bottom of the button, at the bend, as it is marked here were the glue gun tip is.

6- Use a 3/16” drill bit for the right size.
Slide the LED’s into the holes on the shoulder buttons, and dab a drop of hot glue, into the hole, to seal the LED’s in. This also gives it some structural integrity, just as the knots in the wire did.
7- ASSEMBLE THE COMPONENTS AND TEST
Solder each of the positive LED wires to the Resistor, and each of the negative wires to the wire attached to the ground point on the power board.

Now would be a good time to test it all out, so you don’t have to take it all apart again, if something went wrong.
8- REASSEMBLE THE PSP AND ENJOY

Put it all back together the opposite way you took it apart, turn it on and impress all your friends!
Don’t forget to let us know how it went and if you still have questions, visit the AcidMods forum and ask!

all credits go to 4dP and TheG4mer on this tut i just fixed all this so people have a working tut instead of keep asking how to do it

if you like how i fixed this tut please karma me

all so pictures alien_x posted

i dont know that much but try finding the the pin to the triggers and try if the leds work when pressing the trigger solder to there but make sure to use a resistor if needed

Hey sorry if this is a nooby question, but in the part of the tut here:

Noticed how I routed the wires in this picture. Once the wires are tied slip them through the same hole. This picture also shows the points on the power board, you will have to solder to. Notice how I scraped the paint on the supply trace; it’s much easier than trying to solder to those small through-holes

I don't understand it. How do you have wires soldered to contact points, is tied and stuck through a hole, and wired to leds? Also, how do you scratch the paint on the supply trace? Could you show a more detailed picture of that step? I'd appreciate it very much.

Thanks in advance,
Justin

Im being really noob but do you have to use that type of wire? Because I got some 24, 22, 18 gauge wires lying around the house.
And I got some Red Leds(Around 400?).. but they are not SMT its like 5mm REd Led or soemthing from radioshack
Edit: And I found some Electrical tape Heavy Duty 7-mil? And some Silver-Bearing Solders.. And wierld stuffs...

Ahh Okay, I will just look for some at my dad's work I guess, it was wires that I was worried about :] Thanks.
And for Leds, is it because of current and voltage that it has to be specific type? Or is it just size or shape?

I found some 30 awgs but it says White Insulated Wrapping Wire? what is this

if im going to make led mods on my slim, is it ok to tap wires onto the power switch board so that when i switch it on led lights will glow.
where can i find 3.6v point on the switch board, is it ok if i used insulated copper wire instead of using #30 stranded wires, coz its not available hir, #22 is the smallest

well i have been looking through alot o pics and tuts on how to do this but that wont solve any of my problems

here is the thing...my soldering equipment is old..outdated and has no heat control..better off using a lighter.
and i dont have very good soldering skills...nor do i have a steady hand.
so this is what i boils down to. i will pay for someone (TRUSTED AND VERY GOOD AT THIS) to do it for me.
i will send you my green button chip thing and a payment...currently i dont have the led's nor the wires. but if i can get some one to do this for me i will buy this led set LINK
and i will use some for the psp and the rest you can keep...i will only need 2 on my psp ...so there will be 48 left for you to do what ever to it

if anyone could do this for me here is my email ro_diass@yahoo.com

Hey I'm Kinda New with this soldering thing but i know everything that has to do in the files catagories lol. :yess:  i kinda had trouble understanding the wire configuration of the picture under3- And this is how it will look soldered.
can you maybe geta better picture a bigger one explaning where the wires go im 15 and i just want to make the psp look awsome i mean doesnt everyone ?

And one more thing can you tell me what you meant by
"Solder each of the positive LED wires to the Resistor, and each of the negative wires to the wire attached to the ground point on the power board."
didnt you already do that step? I mean solder the positive led wires to the risister which is on the circuit/powerboard ?    how easy is it to do this ? do you think i can do this i am a beginner with no soldering skills
PLZZZ HELPPP!   :beg: :beg: :beg: :whoosh:  :help:

+KARMA on your work by the way!

sorry but them are the only pics i have i had to rezise the picture from a 100x100 to 800x700 so im sorry you cannot really see much.

people plz stop moaning about the pictures if you want better pictures plz ask others for them i dont do moddings for anyone so dont ask if you want someone to mod your psp got to mods for hire thread.

if you make a not at the end you make it easyer to solder the led and solder to the bourd. as you can see when soldering the leds without a not the wire is harder to solder and sometimes the the wire comes away when trying to solder the other part of the led so with a not there is not strain on the wire which will make it easyer to keep the led connected.

hope that helps
