PSP Laptop model .5
« on: June 01, 2009, 08:40:35 PM »
Ok this is the PSP laptop .5 this is also a work in progress and I have some cleaning up to do and a few additions. This is the main body assembly and how the completed version will look. Let me know what you guys think  .

The LCD has an extended FFC so it dosent have the whole big FPC hanging out and exposed and being bent around. The normal PSP speakers were relocated to the big holes and covered up with the material from headphones.

The top is a joytech visor only cost 10 bucks and has the same finish as a PSP so it all matches. It has a ridgid hinge that can bend to any angle up to 180 degrees. It also spins so I put a dab of glue too keep it from spinning but still fold.

Well im about to pass out video up tomorrow all comments welcome.

Keyboard is fully functional read about it over at PS2dev.org Nico also helped make it work on slim and there is a post here about it too. The FFC is from a sony DVD, CD burner drive from a dell dimension 2350.

That would be nice :cry2: I miss my Advanced R&D status.

Ya its more of a novelty item I don't really carry around any of my other normal psps anyway and I think the built in keyboard and cool flip screen is worth the thickness

No, not exactly.

A FPC stands for Flat Printed Circuit and FFC stands for Flat Flex Cable. They are more or less the same thing. Think of the PSP Innards, the FPC is like what comes out of the LCD, then you connect it to a ZIF (Zero Insertion Force) connector. Which intern then the leads out the back go to wherever assigned. So in a way yes it does require soldering but in a different way then what you specified.

Yes the FFC requires another 30 pin ZIF connector to be soldered onto the connector where it plugs into the PSP mobo. Its kinda one of those things you only get one shot at if its not soldered on perfect the first time the chances of getting it off for another try is almost imposible with a regular soldering iorn.
