PSP External Dualshock Controller
« on: May 26, 2008, 06:58:15 AM »
*Update 2009*

This post once contained pictures and video of a Ps2 controller that had been hardwired to control a PSP through a 25 pin connector (the specific connector used in this case was desoldered from an old circuit board, I don't know of a source for them). The image links are dead and the video is no longer on YouTube so this has all been removed.

If you are still interested in how to hardwire input devices to a PSP, or use a microcontroller and digital potentiometer to manage input from other devices, see this post.

Brilliant mate!   Love the way you can turn the psp off via the analog on/off button. i remember there being a rumble mod for the psp, could you make this controller mod, but incorporate the rumble using the one's already in the controller? so say when you get a load noise from getting smacked up in a game, the controller rumbles.

Yeah you could, It would have to work when the speakers reach a certain pitch. The motors would have to be replaced but it is a simple mod.

all yeah need to do is put PSP batteries in place of the rumble motors and wire them internally, so it acts as an auxiliary power source as well.  As it is lacking LED's pimp that thing out man!

That's a great idea, but i don't think you could get a psp battery in the controller. not where the motors are at least.

or you can wire the motors up to some tact switches and put the switches below the L&R buttons in the ps3 controller so you can have rumble

Very true! if this had some sort of mount that locked the psp in place then that would help for portable game play. One solt is better, don't see how some people prefer the 4 usb ports. so much place used and it's ugly.
