Are you an Android fan like myself? Or are you one of those Apple supporters. Did you get an iPhone only to realize later that you should have gotten an Android? Well, this rant really isn’t important because we all know deep down inside that Android is a better OS. Be reluctant and fight these facts it is okay. I do understand. Step one is accepting that you are wrong… Anyway, I am just joking. XD

A Hacker by the name of David Wang completely shot down Apple’s attempt at keeping their precious toys locked down. This previous Wednesday Mr. Wang released a demonstration video showing a first generation iPhone with dual-boot configuration.

The video begins with the iPhone Dev Team Member Mr. Wang showing his iPhone running the iPhone OS. Mr. Wang then resets the phone and demonstrates it booting the Linux kernel and boots the Android OS. He does demonstrate the functions of the phone still working properly and admits it isn’t production quality yet, but perhaps Alpha quality.

He shows the Wi-Fi, music, texting, and the all-important phone function. Mr. Wang’s work is quite notable because he has been working on it since 2008 if not earlier. In the video he does mention that things are a little buggy because he has not implemented all of the Android-specific driver extensions, he was also running a debug version of the OS and don’t forget most Android phones have five buttons if not more, which makes navigating on the iPhone a little trickier.
"quotThere'#39s a little bit of a button shortage on the iPhone,"quot Wang said.

Mr. Wang believes that it should be fairly simple to port forward this to the 3G although the 3Gs will obviously take more time. “Hopefully with all this groundwork laid out, we can make Android a real alternative or supplement for iPhone users. Maybe we can finally get Flash. ;)"quot Wang said.

Lego-bot Plays Tetris

Creator Branislov Kisacanin used the Lego Mindstorm NXT, a webcam, a Texas Instruments digital processing board, and custom algorithms to fully automate a bot that can intelligently play the classic arcade game Tetris.

The video really captures the integration of several different pieces of hardware and the software that pulls it all together.

So with all the slim pickings of interesting technical news and my personal vendetta against Apple and anything iPhone. I have scrounged around and found out something interesting, that involves Lights, shiny reflective surfaces, and tiny tiny cameras.

Once upon a’ time I wrote an article telling you all about microchips that would communicate with light. This following article follows the same line of thought.

A company by the name of Lightfleet has been working on a project code-named “Beacon” for the past seven years. The project incorporates technology that employs light signals that will eventually replace the cabling and switches used in a blade server to connect different server nodes.

As of this past December a working unit had been delivered to Microsoft’s Research Laboratory. It is a thirty-two node server that utilizes dual-core Intel processors as well as standard ‘off-the-shelf disks’, storage, &amp memory.

The difference between a normal blade servers compared to the one that Lightfleet delivered to Microsoft is how the each node communicates with one another. nbsp Typically the more nodes you put into a blade server the more complex the job of interconnection becomes. This also generates more heat, and how much power that is uses, and will drastically diminish operation speed.

That is not the case with the new approach from Lightfleet. The companies odd interpretation of something that might remind you of a Three Musketeers moto: “All to all, all at once” is the key to how the company gets around the as of now troublesome complexities with operating a blade server.

Instead of having to flip switches and pass individual commands from one server to the next the new method Lightfleet is working on allows the server nodes can transmit the same signal to all of the other nodes. Then each node can receive the signal sent by the nodes transmitters. Now of course Lightfleet isn’t t...

Gizmodo Provides First Glimpse of iPhone 4G
by, aquatsr

The folks over at Apple probably aren'#39t too happy about this one. The device in question was found in a bar in Redwood City, disguised to look like an iPhone 3GS. However, Gizmodo got ahold of it and did a teardown do give us the details, and provide veracity that it is, indeed, the real thing (or a superb fake).

The Goods

The first thing to notice about this iPhone sans the 3GS-like case it was sheathed in is that the smartphone'#39s case is noticeably different than that of its brethren. Unlike the aluminium-metallic case of the iPhones of years past, this phone is housed in what looks like a plastic/glass case that features metallic buttons for volume, mute, and power. Additionally the 4G iPhone is rather similar to designs for the Apple computers, particularly the iMac, Macbook Pro, Mac Pro, and Cinema Displays, the hard-cut black-and-silver look. The curved back is gone as the iPhone lies flat on its back and face.

The aluminium in this model has been relegated to the side circumference of the device, providing a silver band going all around the phone. According to Gizmodo the device is 3 grams heavier, features a 16% larger battery, and smaller components overall, possibly to accommodate the the larger battery.

As some of you know, Xbox LIVE service for original XBOX Games was discontinued over this weekend. The dominant game in this category was Halo 2, which still hosted large amounts if matches over Xbox Live. Bungie also had a 'humpday' event (in which Bungie employees play against regular players) to mourn the passing-to-be of Xbox Live.

Small rebates have been given in the form of Microsoft points and LIVE membership to many Halo 2 players.

PREVIEW: Many of you will know that a Gears of War 3 Trailer was introduced this week.

Key Features:

 - New [Alien?] Race Hostile to both Locust and Humans
 - New Double-Barrelled Shotgun
 - 4 Player Online Co-op

Well, that's most of the stuff for this week. Some other announcements were of a 'touch' system in Fable 3 (allowing player characters to engage in relationships). Remember, May 3rd is almost here for the Halo: Reach Public Beta

See you there!
