  • Gizmo613: shouldn't be too much of a problem with the hdd mods since you can rip the full game to the hdd. Got a full copy of TXR2 ready to go on hdd when my parts come in to do the hdd mod.

    July 11, 2017, 05:58:01 AM
  • Brian 503: Love Tokyo extream racer! Too bad I can burn that game due to they don't make CDs that can handle all the data! Spent many hours on those games 1 & 2.
    July 10, 2017, 07:58:25 PM
  • Gizmo613: Oh and vmu needs a new ocillator as well to match the overclock speed, then itll work. Atleast from what ive read, lol.
    July 10, 2017, 03:56:01 PM
  • Gizmo613: Brian, i did some more reading about the overclock/speed mod. Yes, it improves emulator gameplay, movies and some games. I mainly play tokyo xtreme racer 2 and it definately lags. Seen some gameplay footage with overclock and the hdmi mod, it runs beautifully!

  • Brian 503: It helped also with bleemcast when playing PlayStation disks on dreamcast but I have no idea how it works on a SD mod.
    July 09, 2017, 08:22:54 PM
  • Brian 503: I haven't gone that far into the dreamcast  with the hdd/is a mods but the speed is noticing better and not ridiculous fast. It might pair good with emulators with older systems but u loose vmu support. The good thing is u can hook up I believe a spdt switch to the pin if u clip it and u can switch it back in forth between regular clock speeds and overclock  speed. If I can remember correctly not all dreamcast games work on overclock but I mainly played quake. Might be worth doing some research on. I remember playing emulators on burnt dvds and it helped with frame rate drops when the game had too many loads going on like in mega man and Mario bros.

  • Gizmo613: gonna do the internal battery mod next. Going with regular CR2032 instead of rechargeables.
    July 09, 2017, 05:47:26 PM
  • Gizmo613: in your opinion, how would the speeds compare with hdd/ide mod and 40mhz mod.
    July 09, 2017, 05:45:40 PM
  • Brian 503: Nice work! Dreamcast got me into nodding! Did the internal vga then the overclock with the 40mhz crystal oscillator. It started everything for me.
    July 09, 2017, 04:53:02 PM

Using mod tools to tweak the files installed on the Classic’s built-in storage, users are able to more than double the number of games installed on the retro system. Now, the modding tools have gotten a big update and it’s now possible to installed a crazy huge number of games — as in, the entire North American retail library of over 700 titles.

The go-to tool for NES Classic hacking is called Hakchi, and while the original release and subsequent 2.0 update helped popularize Classic modding, the newly launched Hakchi 2.11 is so, so much more powerful. Developed by emulation guru Cluster from the GBATemp forums, the new version of the software creates a folder system on the Classic to support a much, much larger number of games than before and turning the system into a true emulation powerhouse.

What’s even more impressive, the new mod is capable of running games from within zipped files, which saves a lot of space and allows for even more titles to be packed onto the system’s relatively modest ~300MB storage capacity.

The early errors associated with Hakchi — including the software’s pesky habit of throwing false positives on PC virus scanning — have been ironed out. The vast majority of users report a relatively seamless uploading procedure and flawless emulation of the games they’ve uploaded. That said, there are always a few titles that don’t play well with emulators, and some notable games like Battletoads require additional tweaking. Thankfully, the emulation community is extremely active and you can stay updated on patches for problem games on the Hakchi thread.

If you are not an Xbox preview member, you have only seen a small glimpse of things to come for Xbox one. If you are a preview member (beta tested) you have probably been frustrated the past few weeks with a very buggy UI. This weekend there was a new preview dash update that fixed most of the bugs and brings us much closer to a public release.

Things are shaping up nicely for the new xbox one experience with many new features and layout revisions to the UI that will make the xbox more convenient to use.  I cannot detail all of these revisions, but I will note a few that you may notice in the following videos that showcase the new UI. (Keep in mind, I fail at taking videos so they are not the best quality but this is just a sample.
A few new points I would like to point out are as follows:

1.   Backwards compatible games. Most of the 360 disk based games will be available by the end of the year. Many of them are ready to play now (after you reinstall them on the one) 360 arcade games are touch and go, I would state 80% of arcade games have been made available for download free of charge if you already own the game on the 360. (These show up in the “ready to install” area of the games and app screen.

When playing a 360 game, it is important not to go full screen on an xbox one app or progress will be lost (save, save often) while playing, pressing both start and back buttons at the same time will bring up the familiar 360 UI window for ease of use and game management.

2.   Button remapping. I have heard rumors of this on the PS4, but I don’t know the validity or extent. I can tell you and you will see in the video below that every face button can be remapped to another face button, dpad, or bumper. The triggers can be swapped, the sticks can be swapped, and the sticks can be inverted independent...
