Slim Lite-On 0225 wont load any discs
« on: November 14, 2012, 02:18:37 AM »
Hey guys, i got a slim in today, had a WINBOND chip.

So it kamikaze'd it and i got the SPI unlock status. I flashed it following the JF tutorial (they use a unlocked pcb btw) and i wrote the F/W and everything looked right.
I put the drive back into the slim, and tested it with a Black Ops II backup and a Amped III original, the xbox just kept sayin Open Tray.
So i thought it was a bad flash. Re unlocked the drive with alcohol swabs, rewrote the firmware. tested again, and still doesn't work.

Heres the log on the second try:

I have had this same issue at times , sometimes you need to hit the outro/ATA Reset  a couple of times also did you lock the spi before clicking the outro/ATA Reset?  sometimes you have to do that twice this also allows you to play xbl i from what i seen in a few videos. so you dont get banned. (not sure if thats true) just know from frlahsing drives that is recommended on the slims

If so i would say its time for a new laser, the slim drive lasers seem to burn out faster then a normal drive. I tried pot adjustments but doesn't seem to last as long. for a few bucks you can get a laser pretty cheap just make sure you carefully change them . seem very cheaply made and break easy.

I somewhat have the same problem. Except mine would say play game, as I click it, it would sign me out and go back to the dashboard. I just restart my xbox and it'll be fine. Try restarting your xbox. Also post picture of the winbond chip. You might have drilled a little too deep. Which drill did you use to drill? The 1.0mm that came with the template, if so there's a good chance you went to deep. As it is recommended to use the 1.0mm to mark the spot and use the 0.8mm to drill.

I don't think it went too deep, i used a dremel, and took a photo of the chip and used paint to determine where to drill, used a .8mm drill point.
Rodent went through all the flashing steps with me just now, and it still doesn't work , the flashing went smooth.

So the conclusion is too buy a new laser and see where that takes me. thanks for your help

Here's a image of the hole i drilled:

So bad news guys.. i had a thread about this over at ixtreme.com, and according to them the hole i drilled for kamekaze is way too deep.

So my only sulotion is replacement pcb.. i want to order local (south africa) and the cheapest.. so i got two options the Matrix Freedom replacement or the TX replacement.. the matrix is cheaper by about 15$

so planningon buying that, just want to get someones opinion on this before i buy it

thanks

all you had to do was drill a little bit to get your drilling spot then finish her off with a low w solder iron simple twisting motion with the weight of the solder iron
the iron wouldve done the job just fine done it numerous times

ask rodent about the matrix pcb i sent rodent one dont remember if he told me how it worked out

Did you already order a replacement laser? Since you already dump your original firmware, why not get another board and drill again? They are about $20-$35 shipped on evay.

ahh ok, i'll ask Rodent about the Matrix.

also if i buy a new board off ebay, can't i just buy one that has a MXIC spi? then theres basically no chance off screwing up? or do i need to buy a WINBOND again and Kamakaze?

lol my friend is getting impatient, and the matrix freedom ships ina week, so he wants it even thougg its costing him.

The matrix works great and for the money if your going to spend it's worth buying, also if you can get a TX unlock board they work great also... I knew that idea of drilling a hole in the chip was a bad idea...  I have a winbond regular board i sell if you like to try it again. I dont know what shipping would cost . to south africa but cant be that much.

Its $17.00 usd to ship let me know we work on a price if you want.

OK Guys, Finally Got it working :P

First off all thanks to Everyone who helped out, theodor, EDO, kingMike and ecpessially Rodent, you guys Rock..

So i ordered a Matrix Freedom Lite PCB, and decided to use the solder less installation first just to see if its actually the pcb that's the problem, turns out it is, and weren't the laser at all...

So me being me, decided, to scrap the solder less, and solder myself, Stupid Idea.

I ended up soldering two wires wrong way, and frying the laser..
thank goodness, i had a laser shipped before, when i thought it was the laser...
Popped in the new one, and the games now run, but may need a tweak, since its struggling to run some originals and backups...

Glad you got it working. Yeah Everytime I put in a new laser, it always needs a bit of tweaking. no matter what system I get a new laser for.

I have replaced lasers never had to tweak a new laser , usually older lasers if swapped them from another drive... also no the slime liteon pcb will not work on the older phats. lasers are different if you look at them

Aren't new laser shipped with the antistatic solder point. That has to be removed? Not sure if it applies to every new laser.

You should always unplug the laser from the drive before flashing the drive. I have heard from many people that their laser burned out and they receive the "open tray" error after flashing a lite -on drive (both slim and phat lite-on drives) with the laser still plugged in.
