controller modification
« on: February 03, 2010, 06:05:11 AM »
ok so some of you should remeber the soulshudder mod I did over the summer for a disabled gamer. (the guy I named the mod after) I have been asked to do a similar mod for another member with a game crippiling disability which will not allow full motion of the sticks and buttons. he must regrip to reach the buttons if his thumb is on the stick , and vise versa if he is on the buttons. as most of you know this would make a first person shooter very dificult.

The last mod I did and sponcered on my own because it was more of an adventure then a job. With this one he will be suplying the controller for modification. Neither I nor acidmods will accept any payment for the mod. We do so to help all people enjoy the games we love.

a work log to follow. I expect to have the controller this weekend.

today was a good day, paints still wet so it looks goofy in the pic,
it will lay flat, thats first primer coat. the stick is done, buttons are drilled,
all I have to do is install the tacts inside the button and close it up.
dont know how much more time the wife will let me work on it this weekend though.

i could see this turning into a controller similar to the N64 controller with some different modifications, or even a cross (+) shaped controller with the sticks on 2 ends, and the buttons on the other 2.

im really interested in seeing what this turns into.

nice to see you doing volunteer work for the disabled video gaming community (if you want it put that way)

you have to read the thread eveynow aand again. lol the paint in this pic is wet, all primer looks like that when first applied, it is dty now and has laid flat. as for the buttons, it is one complete assembly. they are in the same alignment as they were in the origional location.

first testing. need to wire test and wire the buttons, then I will take apart again and do the final paint. placement of the buttons in the location of the analog stick was not a very time efficient mod. LOL there has been a few complications just due to the location. its hard to tell just looking at the controller, but the area where the buttons are originally placed, and the buttons them selves are sloped toward the right following the contours of the controller. for the buttons to even have a chance to fit the whole assembly had to be rotated because the buttons are now more into the slope towards the bottom of the controller. the buttons will be wired to the default locations, the button colors will be had painted, or dyed, once all my fitting, wiring and testing are done. which as you can see below, all the fitting is done I am testing and finishing the wiring next. I am very pleased with how controller molding came out.
