Painting the shell without taking it off?

I haven't modded any Nintendo products, so I don't have the screwdriver and I'm not to interested in purchasing one. Can I just spraypaint the shell without removing it?

it's really not a good idea and probably won't come out nice.  You would also have to miss some spots so the paint doesn't get inside.
