Voice Recognition Controllers

Voice Recognition Controllers

The things we do may at time seem pointless how ever we always have a reason behind them. Imagine you being mobility impared and every day of your childhood had to accept the fact that you are unable to play games like other children. Would you not want some sliver of hope there is some crazy modder out to develop some device that alows you to play even if the responce time was a little laggy? This stuff is what paves the ways for future visionaries to do it right. we show the world what really matters we give hope to people and inspire companies not to forget about the 2%. I hope some child who was unfortunate to have a disability sees our video and gets a spark of hope. Perhaps that child will be the next console developer..

Nothing we do is in vain...

Creating Voice Recognition Controllers. Here is Part 1 of this video tutorial the SR07 board this is the brain of the kit and does require loads of soldering. This kit is super easy to put together. This controller board is what analizes spoken words and determins matches. I plan on adding this kit to a Xbox 360 controller for things like (Reload, Scope, Plasma...)  this kit can be found here http://www.imagesco.com/kits/speech-recognition-kit.html

Here is the 360 Voice recognition Controller I only used 3 commands in the video but I have 10 buttons connected to the device

Here it the assembly process.

Here is the final controller board.

Well your probably wondering how do I program it to my voice? Do I need a PC to program it? Well the answer is no all you need to do is assemble the included keypad and programming is as simple as pressing a few buttons. Assembling the included key pad is very strait forward and simple to solder. Here is a Video od the job.

Here is the Final KeyPad.

Well now that you have the keypad for entering commands your probably wondering how you will see what command number you are programming. With this kit it includes a digital display that displays the one of ten buttons you are able to control with voice commands. her is the assembly video of the Digital Dsplay.

Low res video 56k

High Res video (click on full screen to view up close)

Here is the final Digital Display.

To give you an idea how it work I created a small test video. As you can see you can program the device to any word and programming is very easy. You can program key words like "Reload" to free up button presses in the heat of battle.

Low res Video 56k

High Res video (click on full screen to view up close)

Here it is Assembled.

Onceyou program your desired words you can remove the keypad and display to slim down the componants.

Here is the relay board.

Here is the 360 controller attachment.

Update:

I spoke to the manufacturer of the chip and it turns out I have it set to long word recognition when im using short words so by changing it the system wont have to wait for the entire length. this should improve the responce time by half..

Great idea.
I'm currently awaiting my speech recognition kit (SR-06)

I'm a costume maker (http://marcwolf.org) who also has a keen interst in animatronics and special effects.  Something I have been wanting to do for a long time is to make my suit more realistic with wagging tail, moving ears, muzzle flaps and nose wrinkles.

I use the PicAXE chip range to control the servo's and to handle the sequencing.

My biggest difficulty has been with the input circuitry. I have experimented with hall effect switches in the gloves fingers and a magnet on the thumb but it is still too obvious that I am entering in commands of a kind.

Speech recognition looks to be the solutions.

With a series of whines, growl, howls and other sounds that would match my characters character I can use them to initiate the sequences.

Thanks so much for putting up the tutorials etc and for letting me know that what I am trying is workable

Take Care

Dave

Got a POC Yet? Like seeing the 360 actually being controlled by voice? Another thing, i see you got a headset, would it be possible to 1, use the 360 Headset (Chat pad one) and 2, Have a switch so you could use the same headset to speak, or even a voice command to switch?

being both Cyber and I have done a lot of soldering, i think I can help you with this one

get a 15-25 watt one as cheap as you can, they all work the same.  I'm sure I'm not the only one who has gone through 6-7 soldering irons tips.

*When you solder stuff a lot, the gun itself actually melts away over time...

Not only is this one of the coolest things I have seen in a while, it is actually helping someone too... I think it is a great idea and it has many other implications. When you guys say the response time needs to be improved, it could be better but think about not ever playing video games before, or with a severe handicap, this would be a dream come true even if it is a few milliseconds behind, and not only that, look at the time and patients put into this. I think it's awesome.

Sorry for the RO sentence. </rant>

P.S. It's awesome

A voice control module for controlling a game controller comprising:

a microphone for inputting voice signals;

a first voice recognition device having a memory for storing a plurality of game command files and being used for converting first voice signals inputted from the microphone within a time period into a corresponding game command, each of the game command files comprising corresponding first voice signals of a plurality of game commands; and

a second voice recognition device having another memory for storing a control command file and being used for converting second voice signals continuously inputted from the microphone into a corresponding switch command, the control command file comprising corresponding second voice signals of a plurality of switch commands wireless internet, each of the game command files stored in the memory of the first voice recognition device being corresponding to a switch command of the control command file;

wherein after the second voice recognition device converts the second voice signals inputted from the microphone into a corresponding switch command that corresponds to one of the game command files stored in the memory of the first voice recognition device, the second voice recognition device initiates the first voice recognition device to convert the first voice signals inputted from the microphone within the time period into a corresponding game command in the game command file corresponding to the switch command to control the game controller.

The present invention provides a voice control module for controlling a game controller comprising: a microphone for inputting voice signals, a first voice recognition device of command mode for converting the voice signals inputted from the microphone within a time period into a corresponding game command, and a second voice recognition device of continuous mode for converting the voice signals continuously inputted from the microphone into a corresponding switch command. Wherein after the switch command is converted, the second voice recognition device initiates the first voice recognition device to convert the voice signals inputted from the microphone within the time period into a corresponding game command to control the game controller.

Lol, that is really cool.  I had a very similar idea but for the 360 console a while ago but didn't know how to do it exactly. (FOOkz can vouch for that)  :)
